Book Review: Queen of the Sea by Dylan Meconis

Queen of the Sea by Dylan Meconis is a historical fiction graphic novel, loosely based on writings about exile of Queen Elizabeth I by her sister, Queen Mary. This graphic novel includes prose alongside an intriguing plot, and several different art styles. The main character, Margaret, is a strong female lead, as well as a relatable character. Margaret is a young girl who lives on an island filled with nuns, living out her days completing lessons, doing embroidery, and helping out with chores. This all changes when one day, a mysterious woman arrives. As Margaret grows to be her friend, she finds that their fates may be more entwined than she ever thought possible. Overall, I give this book 9.5/10 stars!

Great for fans of Royal Diaries, The Beatryce Prophecy, and The Inquisitor's Tale.

Suggested age range: 10-14 years.
