This National Book Award Finalist, told by former Somali refugee Omar Mohammed, is about growing up in a refugee camp with his brother. Though this story contains heavy subjects, the uplifting, but bittersweet, ending paired with a note from the author in the back makes this a very fulfilling read. Fans of Roller Girl and All's Faire in Middle School will recognize Victoria Jamieson's art style, with colorful illustrations and scenic landscapes. Overall, I give this graphic novel a 10/10.
Great for fans of New Kid as well as and readers interested in autobiographical graphic novels! This is also a good read for children whose families gone through the immigration process.
